The Greatest Romance of All Time

First - don't forget to vote on the poll!!!!! :D

Day 20: Favorite Romance Book

I mentioned this book a few days ago... but as a side note. So I figured it would be OK to use.

Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers

It is based off of the story of Hosea and Gomer in the Old Testament, only it takes place in 1850 California during the gold rush. Angel is the most highly paid prostitute at Pair-A-Dice and has always been disappointed by men. Then Michael walks into her life claiming that God has told him to take her as his wife. Naturally, she fights against him at first. But then - slowly, day by day - she warms to his love. Michael never gives up on Angel, even when she leaves him to go back to her old life. (More than once!) He never stops loving her.

What is so wonderful is that this is such a beautiful example of different sides to love. The love between a husband and wife - the way it's supposed to be. Then also the love God has for his people. How he never lets go of us.

In the book of Hosea, God tells the prophet to marry a prostitute (or promiscuous woman). It's an example of the love God has for Israel. They continually "cheated" on God by turning away from him and worshiping other gods. But Yahweh (God) never stops wooing Israel. Yahweh never stops wooing us.

This is what God calls for husbands to do for their wives as well. In Ephesians it says that men should love their wives the way Christ loved us. There is no greater love! Can you imagine if every husband loved their wives the way Christ loved us? Laying down their lives, being one with their wife, loving her and taking care of her as he would his own self. What a drastic change marriages would have today if they followed the examples of Redeeming Love, Hosea, and Ephesians!

Therefore I am going to allure her; I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her. - Hosea 2:14

I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion. I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the Lord. - Hosea 2:19-20

This is how we know what love is:  Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. - 1 John 3:16

The greatest romance of all time.
