Hi everyone! I'm so honored that
Emily asked me to guest blog, we have been reading & commenting
on each other's blogs for a while now and I've really enjoyed getting
to know her. So it was a no brainer when she asked me to pitch
in and share something, anything on her blog!
I will be the first
to say that summer isn't my favorite season. I'm an autumn girl
all the way- hoodies, hot chocolate, cool breezes, colorful
leaves...yeah, I'm all about it. BUT- there are some distinctly
summer things that even I am crazy about! So when I was trying
to figure out what to talk about on LWMUTM (wow just realized how
long that title is, ha!), I decided to talk about my favorite summer
pleasures.
-One of the first
"summer-y" things I did this year was to go strawberry
picking! My dad used to grow strawberries in our yard when I
was a kid, and being out in the field was surprisingly fun and
nostalgic. It's funny how I always dreaded working out in the
garden as a kid, and now I love it!
-Everyone has their
own personal summer traditions, and homemade peach ice cream is
mine. In my case, it has to be from a very specific
place- no substitutions will be accepted! There is a stand on
the side of the highway near my hometown that has the best ice
cream in the world. I know, it's a bold statement, but I
have yet to have it beat. And every year I look forward to
enjoying the deliciousness that they create there...I may or may not
buy a quart to take home with me. And next time...I may add a
quart of scuppernong
along with my peach (because really...where else will you find
that?).
-Keeping in theme
with food (because, well, I really like to eat) is...fresh garden
veggies! My husband and I are buying our first home, and one of
the things I'm most excited about is starting my own garden. I
have what some would call an addiction to tomatoes, especially...I
have been known to eat them the way most people would eat apples.
Can't help it, I LOVE them. And hey, they're good for you so
why feel bad about it? Unfortunately our closing date is a bit
late in the year for planting, so I'll have to hold off till next
summer. In the meantime, my parents loaded me up the last time
I visited them so I have tons of cucumbers, squash, zucchini,
potatoes, and more thanks to their hard work!
-Another one of my
favorite things about summer is STORMS. This may seem odd to
some people, who love summer because of the heat and sunshine.
Well, I lived in a desert for a few years and got plenty of heat and
sunshine. Now that I am thankfully back home in NC, I am happy
to soak up all the rain that the good Lord sends! There's
something about the rain beating down outside and being all cozy
inside that just warms my heart...it's like a snow day, only without
having to freeze my butt off and deal with ice on the roads the next
week (yeah, CO weather didn't agree with me). Plus there is
something about the way the sunshine breaks through all those clouds
in the end...it's one of the most beautiful sights in the world.
As you can probably
tell from this list, I love being outside in the summer (and
eating). I love having more daylight to enjoy this beautiful
world we live in, and seeing everything flourish.
That is my word of the year this year, so perhaps that's why this
summer especially is more enjoyable to me than others.
Emmy's Note: Thank so much Brittany for guest blogging today! I'll admit, I'm more of an autumn girl too. As much as I love summer (4th of July and my birthday!) fall has my heart. But After reading this post... I think I need to find some strawberries and ice cream! Don't forget to check out Brittany's blog at Delightfully Awkward Brittany .
I was with you on everything except for the storms part of summer! Hehe.
ReplyDeleteHaha. With storms it depends on my mood!
