Balancing Act

You knew what this was going into it. Or at least you thought you did.

Step one. You're excited. Nervous. Uneasy. Everyone is smiling, waiting for the next move, saying that you can do it.

Everybody's waiting for you to breakdown

It's not an easy path. You knew this going in. At least you thought.

Then you learn - it's a balancing act.

Everybody's watching to see the fallout

One wrong step and it's over. Everyone is watching from below, waiting to see what'll happen. How you'll react. Will you fall? Which side? Will you make it to the end?

Is there an end?

So here you are, two steps ahead and staying on guard
Every lesson forms a new scar

Maybe there isn't an end. Maybe there isn't a destination.

Maybe it's just a show to prove you can do it.

That is until you fall.

They never thought you'd make it this far
But turn around, they've surrounded you
It's a showdown, and nobody comes to save you now

But you've got something they don't
Yeah you've got something they don't
You've just gotta keep your eyes open

But to which side do you fall?

You look to one side. You see the destruction. You see the end and shivers run down your spine.

You look to the other side. You can't see the result. You don't see the end. It's just...

...unclear.

Everybody's waiting for you to breakdown
Everybody's watching to see the fallout

Your feet waver as you look forward. There's nothing there either. You can feel the eyes of the onlookers staring at you.

You could just stay here. Not choosing a side. Just staying there. It seems to everyone else a good option. Stay on the rope. Don't go too far to either side. Don't finish either. That's where they want you. Just stay there.

Keep your feet ready
Heartbeat steady
Keep your eyes open
Keep your aim locked
The night goes dark
Keep your eyes open

But eventually... something has to give.
I'll have to make a choice of which side to fall.
