Opening Night Butterflies

It's Friday the 13th and opening night for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

We've already had someone say the name of the Scottish play this week which made our director flip out... so we'll see how it goes. At least if something goes wrong we know what to blame it on.

I'm surprisingly calm though as I double check the color of my lipstick and get ready to go. Call time is in an hour. At this point, either I'm ready to perform or I'm not. There's nothing I can do about it now.

However, being too calm is what makes me nervous. At least when I'm hyped up and itching to go I'm alert. I'm running through dance moves in my head and recalling the intricate harmonies for each song. When I'm too calm, my brain decides to shut off and then I forget what to do when I'm on stage.

Then other times my mind goes into auto-pilot and everything happens as though it were as easy as breathing.

I'm running late. It's time to go whether I'm ready or not.

  3. I'm sure it was fine. I tend to be pretty calm when I go on stage, I may be nervous when I have to call strangers on the phone but not when I go on stage and perform, it's weird. Sending good vibes your way (even though opening night is now over).

    1. Thanks! It went really well. I usually don't get really nervous about performing, I think it was more of that I was just kinda "eh" all day about opening night. I had to listen to loud music to pump myself up while I drove over to the theatre.
