How I Named My Blog

When someone first starts blogging, there are so many thoughts which run through their heads. What to write about. Page design and layout. How to get readers. What to name the blog.

Not me.

At least I don't think.

Back in the day, I had a Xanga page. I created it a few days before leaving for college because a friend of mine told me she had one and it was the best way to keep in touch with people ever. So I made one and made my user name SnowWhiteGrl. UGH. I can't even remember what the actual title of my Xanga was or if it was just my username.

Then when my university got Facebook - Xanga slowly disappeared and in came Facebook Notes. I didn't have to use a username there. (YAY!) Although I think I did use the "blog" feature on MySpace for about a blink of an eye and I don't even want to know what I made my username on that one. ::Shudder::

As I graduated college I used Facebook Notes less and less... just like everyone else, but I still was writing. Because that's just what I do. So... I started a blog on a whim and I'm pretty sure I just threw on that title. At one point I changed the name of my blog just for Christmas time and then switched it back in the early days.

Blog branding? What's that? Psshhh. I do what I want.

But the name I have on here stuck. Love Woke Me Up This Morning. It's a bit long, but I always liked the phrase. I feel as though I've shared this on the blog before, but it's a lyric from a Bethany Dillon song called "Dreamer" she wrote for the movie Dreamer. (The one with Dakota Fanning and the horse.) I saw the movie maybe once, and it's just a typical horse movie. But I always liked how the song opened with "Love woke me up this morning.."

I've thought about changing my blog name to something shorter, or even just to my name or something. But I like this title. I love the idea that love wakes us up every morning. I feel like it's a reflection of me. Or, more often, who I want to be.

If you want to see the music video, here it is and you can see the lyric in context:

Maybe someday I'll change the name. But for now... I like it.

If you have a blog, how did you think of the name? If you were to create a blog, what would you call it? Have you ever changed your blog name? Why?

  1. Mine was actually pretty easy. I'm a geek, and a librarian. I liked Geekbrarian better than the other permutations, like LibGeek, or LibraryGeek. Although I suppose I could've done Nerdbrarian...

    1. Oh! Nerdbrarian would have been fun! But I like GeekBrarian, it suits you. :)

  2. Ahhh I had a Xanga! It was nice that you didn't really have to give a name to a Xanga blog, just a user name. Titles, like email subjects, are really hard.

    1. So hard! And oh the days of Xanga. I remember how all of my friends in college my freshman year had one before Facebook existed and when the site went down we'd all freak out... good times.

  3. Your blog name got stuck on my head (though I don't know the song haha). I think people should always have something that sir their soul and have something to wake up for - love should be one of them :)

  5. I'm terrible at naming stuff and when I typed in my name when signing up for my original blog, it just suggested a url based on my complete name so I was stuck with that. It was long and boring so that added to my descision to leave wordpress.com because I wanted to change my URL either way. What I'm saying is, naming stuff is hard, yo and I like your blog's name!

    1. It is SO HARD! I'm glad you like it! It makes me feel better that the length doesn't seem to bother people and they like the name.
