The Blessings and Curses of Moving

Moving and clearing things out is a blessing and a curse.

It's a curse because let's face it - packing is annoying. You have to go through all of your stuff, wonder why you have so much stuff and how it all fit into such tiny spaces, then decide what's worth saving and what isn't, find boxes, try to fit all of the stuff into said boxes, and then all of the boxes pile up in your space and even though you've gotten a lot accomplished, it feels like you haven't because there are piles of boxes everywhere.

If you want to see the reality of this, here is what my office looks like as of this moment:

You would be amazed at what I can fit into a tiny cubicle in five years time.

Moving and packing is annoying and time consuming.

However - I've also learned it can be useful. There's so much to get rid of! Things I don't need! Things I needed for my job but didn't want I can finally throw in the trash!

Also, I've decided that it was also time to clean out everything else.

All of those junk emails I never read? The last day and a half I've unsubscribed to at least a dozen junk email lists I'm on.

Blogs on my Bloglovin' feed which I never click on? Gone. Sorry, if that sounds mean. There are still a ton of blogs I read, so don't worry if you think you're in trouble, you probably aren't! But let's be real you guys, we've all followed random blogs just because we wanted to enter a giveaway and then never actual read said blog. Then it just ends up on your feed and you never check it out. Or there are blogs which you simply don't enjoy. It's not because the person is a bad blogger or anything, it's just not your taste. Or blogs which you try to connect to because they are cooler and more popular and you want them to pay attention to you  but they never do. Stuff like that.

It feels good to do some purging. Getting rid of what you don't need or want and keeping only what you do. Keeping what is useful and important.

Now, I'll admit, I'm pretty sentimental. There are a lot of things I'm probably keeping which I shouldn't. I feel like I need someone who doesn't care about my stuff to help me sort through my apartment and clean out.

It's not fun to cut things out sometimes, but it's needed. Sometimes we just need to throw out the bad to let in more good.

Wow - that turned out way more philosophical than I had intended to. I was just going to talk about how excited I am for less junk email. Haha.

Funny how that happens, huh?

  1. Totally agree. Sometimes we just need to de-clutter. I too did the same thing with my blog feed. I recently unfollowed all the blogs that I don't read at all. Feels so much better and I can finally read and comment on blogs that I like :)

  3. Unfortunately, I'm very bad at throwing things away. I like having my "little piles" of stuff laying around me. I could get organized and put things in drawers and boxes...but then I'll never find anything! Lol. Good luck with the move!
PS We should so see Frozen together around Christmas time!!

    1. Haha yeah! I'm trying to be better about throwing stuff away and getting rid of things. I even started a small box of things to give to Goodwill. I'm growing!
