AHHHHH!!!!!!!
I leave for NYC in 4 DAYS!
If you can't tell... I'm a little bit excited.
The other day though, I had a major freak out.
We don't really have a whole plan put together yet.
This entire time I've been sitting here thinking "It'll be like Chicago - just bigger. If we get a bit lost, it'll be a fun adventure."
Then I started to study maps of NYC and got COMPLETELY INTIMIDATED.
As I was freaking out I was tweeting with a friend (@Melbourneonm Mind, who has been to NYC before) and shared how she used the song "New York, New York, It's a Wonderful Town" to help her find her way around.
Showtunes to help with directions?
Um... YES! Why didn't I think of it before!
So... here you go. Featuring two of my favorite singers/dancers/actors, Gene Kelley and Frank Sinatra. <3
Anyone who says that musicals are pointless CLEARLY don't know what they are talking about.
Don't tell her I said so but that Kirsti is one smart cookie. ;)

I love you.
DeleteI love BOTH of you! And yes, Kirsti is one smart cookie. :)
DeleteWhen we had that conversation, I left out the part where I stood in the subway corridor at Grand Central for a full five minutes because I got as far as "New York New York, it's a hell of a town" and then my brain decided to insert the lyrics from the Simpsons version. "The schoolyard's up and the shopping mall's down" isn't NEARLY as helpful for navigating in New York!!
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, don't worry about getting lost. People are happy to point you in the right direction. And with a grid system, the worst you do is go a block in the wrong direction. Which just means you get to see something you didn't expect to see! :)
HAHAHAHA I always swap songs in my head like that.
DeleteAnd yay! I'm glad people are willing to be helpful. I tend to get lost really easily.
JEALOUS OF YOUR TRIP TO NYC! I haven't been in so long :) Can't wait to hear about it! And, love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI AM SO EXCITED! Like, beside myself excited and I can't even handle it. I started to pack yesterday but stopped myself because... I have time. Although I'm probably going to do a blog post about packing. Cause you know... that's what we bloggers do. lol
DeleteOoooh I went to NYC last year and loved it! I was worried I'd get lost too (since I've only ever heard the simpsons version of that song haha), but Kirsti is right, the numbered streets make it really easy. You'll have an awesome time :D
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping! I get lost easily. But thankfully I'm going with a friend - so we can get lost together!
ReplyDeletenow am jealous too

NYC is a charming sity for those who like megalopolis and rush) it`s hard to keep in touch with people there - everything in a mess, especially if u are a stranger.
ReplyDeleteI can see that. But I LOVE big cities and lots of people - so I fit right in when I visited! lol
DeleteI love musicals! And I can't wait to read more about your trip (which should be in a few seconds). Did you go with Sarah from Shades of Shayes? Because I think she was in New York around the same time to see The Newsies.
ReplyDeleteSarah and I wanted to meet up but never got a chance. :( But we tweeted each other a lot as we traveled around the city! I totally should have gone the night she did for Newsies though because they came out after to meet the fans that night, and not the night I went. Boo!
