People in "Real Life"

Do you know what's weird?

When people in "real life" tell you they read your blog. In theory, I know this. My new blog posts are always shared on Facebook and Twitter. Therefore, it's not a secret I have a blog. People read it. My mom reads it sometimes. I have college friends who read it. Some of my close friends read it. Co-workers from my former church read it. But they don't always talk about my blog, so I kinda forget that people outside of the Internet world read this.

Then, you'll randomly have people at church say "I love your blog!" Or you'll go to your college and an old music professor says "Thanks for all of your posts. It's such a great way to keep in touch!"

Um... you're welcome?

Don't get me wrong. It's awesome that people I know read my blog and it's really fun and part of why I started this. It's a way to keep in touch with people and let them know my thoughts and what's going on in my life. I'm glad they read it! For some reason though it always throws me off. Then I get all paranoid of what people think of me and my ridiculousness...

See? Look at what a crazy person I am! Didn't see that in some of my classes at good ol' CUC did ya?

Or maybe you did and I'm just crazier than I thought.

Oh well.

Anyways, one of my blog friends, Jess, mentioned a Blog Everyday in July challenge on her blog. I think I'm going to try it. I've been in a blogging rut lately and originally I was thinking of cutting back to posting only once or twice a week. But, I originally started posting 5x a week because I did Blog Everyday in May, and then didn't stop. Maybe this is the kick in the butt I need to just keep writing. I won't do all of the prompts because of other ideas and posts I need to do. But sometimes it's nice to have someone give you a topic and you can be as creative as you want with it.

Anyone else want to join in? Check out the prompts here:

Also, I'm linking up with Mingle Monday!

  1. This happened to me at church on Sunday - a guy said, hey I really loved your last blog post...I was like ummmm thanks? feels weird!

  2. This has never happened to me yet, only my husband knows about my blog. I'm not sure how I'd feel if other people I knew were reading it!

  3. I've told a few people about the blog but I don't post it on FB or Twitter. I had a blog awhile ago and my stepmom literally wanted to kill me for it because she told me I shouldn't be writing where people can see. So then I haven't told people about it that much, which eh is fine with me.

  4. Stopping by from the Mingle Monday link up!! I recently had this happen to me the other day when someone I didn't realize read my blog made a comment about a post I wrote a week or so ago. I stumbled for a few moments before figuring out what to say because it really floored me that she read my blog! But hey, since I too am posting it on Facebook and Twitter I guess I shouldn't be surprised that people are actually reading it!

  5. I think it's weird when people tell you they love your blog IRL because they are less likely to comment ON THE BLOG. I mean, if you like it...interact on it, kwim? Because otherwise it's just kinda stalking...or that's how it can kinda seem.

  6. Hi. Found you through MIngle Monday and I agree that it is so weird when people I know read my blog and have a front row seat to all of my business! Comment, people! I'm checking out the every day in july blog prompts.

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by! And it is SO weird! But also cool in a way. And you should totally check out the Blog Everyday in July! It's going to be fun! Although challenging too.

  7. when people mention they read my blog, i avoid that whole topic like the plague! not sure why but i feel like they're invading my privacy even though i put it all out there on the interwebs.

  8. I think that I'm coming to terms with this more and more since my rant-y post a while ago, but it still catches me off guard sometimes. It's a mixed blessing sometimes -- I write because I want people to read it, but I want to preserve my little corner of the world where I share my thoughts and opinions because I don't want people to be weirded out.

I am reeeeaaally tempted by this Blog Everyday in July idea...may have to jump on board!! Thanks for putting the "challenge" out there!

    1. You should totally do it! Things like this are so much more fun when others join in!

And yeah... it's awesome people read it. But it totally throws me off!

Share with me your thoughts! They make me smile.
