You Gotta Put Your Behind In Your Past

Then you probably haven't heard that I went to see The Lion King in 3D Sunday night.

I've only been listening to the music and singing the songs for two days now!

There really is nothing like watching a Disney movie to put me in a good mood. I remembered that I always loved The Lion King - but I hadn't watched it in so long that I had forgotten how good it really was.

I also found out that I can still say almost all of the lines along with the characters...

There just isn't anything like reliving part of your childhood. When the movie first came out, I'm pretty sure I was in the 4th grade. At the time, the "cool" thing in my little Lutheran school classroom was to have the Lion King stuffed animals from the Disney Store (which had opened somewhat recently at our local mall and it was the cool store to go to). I had a Simba and a Nala. All of us girls would bring our Lion King animals with us to school and play with them at recess. I remember once I had to bring Nala to school instead of Simba (he had to be cleaned) and one of the boys dropped her in the sand. It was a big tragedy because then BOTH of them had to go in the wash and that meant I couldn't play with either at recess. My friends, thankfully, were very sympathetic.

This is a very loved Simba!
In case you still don't understand what a big deal this movie was to my generation - our classroom hamster was named Pumba. Not even joking. He was the best hamster ever.

I am also fairly certain that Brizzane has re-enacted the opening "Circle of Life" sequence with my dog. Brizzane as Raffiki and Bandit as Simba.

I am Bandit, King of the Lions. ROAR!
But seriously - overall, The Lion King is an incredibly well done movie.

Yes... there are a million cliches thrown into the dialogue.

Yes... it's technically a kids movie.

Yet what I always say is - a good story is a good story. It doesn't matter what age level it's meant for. When you see, hear, or listen to a good story - you don't really care about those sorts of things.

Take the music for example. Sir Elton John is pretty much amazing and it shows in the music of The Lion King. You have to admit that when you hear "I Just Can't Wait to be King" or "Hakunah Matata", you can't help but sing along and feel the urge to dance. And when I hear "Circle of Life" or "He Lives In You" (from the Broadway production) I always feel inspired. We also all know that Timon and Pumba make the song "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" as awesome as it is. ;)

The characters are classic. Simba might be kind of a brat - but you love him anyways because he's just like you. You love Nala and her sass and she can totally beat up Simba if she wanted to. Raffiki is just so... random, it's awesome. Timon and Pumba are the best friends we all wished we had as kids because we would have never stopped laughing. Then we all have to admit that we either wanted to cry - or actually cried - when Mufasa died. Even those crazy hyenas have a place in our hearts.

And alas... this post is already getting a bit long. But don't worry... there will be more Lion King goodness coming tomorrow - or later this week. ;)

Also - who else is excited about SEASON 3 OF GLEE TONIGHT??????????

I'm pumped. I've been re-watching episodes from last season and I am so excited to see what my favorite Gleeks are up to this school year. I've heard they aren't going to do as much Top 40 or tribute episodes this year and focusing a bit more on plot - so awesome! Although I know the music is going to be awesome and I'm ready to get the latest songs onto my ipod so I can jam out in my car while I drive to work.... and Starbucks.

And remember my friends... if you ever are being chased by a pack of crazy hyenas - all you need is a meerkat dressed up in drag doing the hula.

  5. So excited for Glee! It starts here tonight, but I won't get to watch it until tomorrow, as one of my housemates wants me to wait for her, and she doesn't move in until tomorrow.
